We just barely got there in time. 12 o'clock was the right time for the volcano to blow its top and for exactly 12 minutes.

The guides say, that's why this volcano is called Hourglass volcano.

The volcano has a war going with itself and that is why it blows regularly. At the base of the mountain, there are many fountains. Rushing rivers and waterfalls carry huge amounts of water out and spill it into the surrounding. The surge of water, contentiously cools the mountain but as the water spills over and down the mountain, it scrubs away the newly formed rocks and pulverizes them into fine sand. One one hand the mountain grows everyday, on the other hand it washes away every day. And the struggle goes on.

That is of no concern for the lush life that surrounds it. With exotically fertile volcanic soil and ashes that the mountain produces, combined with the water temperature and the sunny days abound, plant life, water and insect lives as well as animals have been flourishing dramatically here year over year for thousands of years. It has been observed plants evolve within days, change shape and other attributes on a daily basis and new never seen before plants just appear and then they wash away. The deep muddy grounds always shifting are so saturated with nutrition that if you drop a seed on top, it soon sinks in and a plant promptly appears. spontaneous rivers carve through one day and surround another day.  Over the years, the washed up seeds from all these plants have been traveling down the streams and finding themselves new environments to grow. Unfortunately not too many plants and other life forms find the none volcanic environments elsewhere very hospitable. So for them adapting to a harsher, colder and less nutritious land is the key to survival. They make it work.

The guides claim this is in fact the fountain of life. It is the soup on the stove with all the right ingredients just simmering away. All life has initiated here. This is the nature's lab where in perfection, plants, animals come to being and play with genetic possibilities that will allow them to adapt to the rest of the earth and survive. The plants, animals, fish and insects we see everyday everywhere are the the ones that made it and survived after leaving this bowl.

Some say, the meaning of life can be found here.

Oh, and another thing that can be found here is spiral flowers...which the guides say we will need later. They grow all over the place here.

The guides tell me that we have to quickly turn west and see a pointy mountain right at noon. There are a lot of pointy mountains around here but this one is alive!
