Perseid Meteors

Description

Of course, proper explanation can be found here: earthsky.org/astronomy-essenti…

Stars fall to earth all the time. Some go through the atmosphere and their ashes fall on our shoulders. Others, just skip by and try another day.

On this particular day and night, the wild stars (aka Perseid Meteors)  traveling the universe, find the best surface to slide on.   They usually roam  in a space without much of any gas around.. Once in a while, they come across the best planet for a long and mostly safe slide across the atmosphere.

This is how it works: All the stars need to slide is a very very thin layer of atmosphere. Only a few molecules wide. Where the earth atmosphere is about to end and where the space starts to begin. This  is the area to slip and slide on.

On a hot sunny morning, the temperature of the atmosphere is so hot compared to the vast space. This creates such a thin but very slippers belt around the atmosphere and locks it in. That is a very velvety slide.

The stars sense this and arrive in abundance, They no longer pose as the usual 5 or more sided star shapes. I love pictures like that but lets see the stars as they really are in their careless, relaxed and soft and pliable forms as they really are. The act more like starfish. When they hurl themselves so fast at the magic layer, they look like baseballs with with pointy wings. They sometimes even flap. When they hit that perfect layer of the atmosphere. There is energy and there is heat in that layer and it it goes through the stars.  It ignites them. Not too much to burn them. Just right. Just the right amount for joy. The stars just love it. This is what living on the edge means. This is what they all want to always do.

There is, however. the possibility of falling through and burning up in a large ball of fire, like shooting stars, At the same time, there is the safety of the wide space to always bounce back without burning up. So to come back and to do it again. And the ride goes on. They slip along and then they bounce off. If they don't bounce off, they fall through.
